You said it perfectly: "it was about moving forward rather than punishing." It's amazing how much this intention dictates whether activism is destructive or constructive. But really, in any part of life, when our goal is punishing instead of moving forward, it tends to cause more problems than solutions.

Kimi's experience with both American contemporary social justice and South African anti-apartheid social justice is so useful for clarifying how social justice is going wrong now. The resistance many activists have to discussing the role of reconciliation and fostering unity makes me suspicious of their true goals.
