Yes, social media feels like playing with fire; it's at once wonderfully useful for sharing ideas and finding like-minded people without the historic gatekeeping by older institutions (publishers, galleries, etc) that's only degraded now into "We'll back what makes a good investment" rather than taking chances on good, innovative, but unknown creators. Yet, it's also highly corrosive for the very kind of artistic integrity that's required to make and stand-by work regardless of whether it's supported by others. I've said exactly that--I resent the seductive design of this necessary evil.
I love being able to find like-minded people who enjoy my work, but I'm very careful to keep social media at arm's length as much as possible!
