You’re a genius. Last night I was thinking about how I haven’t read this newsletter for longer than usual and I was worried if I had cancelled the subscription by mistake, but nope. Glad you took some time off!! Thankyou for doing this.

I was recently talking with a friend about how you can only really sympathise with people if you have had a similar experience. Other times you do it because you know it’s what you should do but it doesn’t come very naturally to humans.

Explains why we prefer similar people over different people.

Great post ;)

Your comment brought me a smile! It keeps me going knowing people like yourself are interested in and appreciative of these ideas. Thank you just as much!

That is a great analysis -- I definitely agree that we find it easier to sympathize with those most like ourselves because of our shared experiences. Extending that sympathy beyond the natural border to those we can't easily understand or relate to is the effort that will lead us into a new era of human civilization. Here's to hoping we succeed!

Enjoyed reading this article and would love it if you shared your reading list

I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it! And there's nothing I love more than sharing my reading list. For starters, the long list is here: https://www.salomesibonex.com/book-club.

Currently I'm breaking down a cool little book called The Courage to Create by an existential psychologist I love, Rollo May. You might like joining the book club I run where I share my notes & breakdowns of books I'm enjoying: https://www.facebook.com/groups/readgudbookclub. No pressure to read along or really do anything except enjoy the ideas shared.

I'm also at the beginning of Pathways to Bliss by Joseph Campbell. I'll be sharing notes on this one too in the book club soon. A lot of these books have been really important to me, so I hope you find something you'll love!
