Ideas and people that are old act as the graphite rods to the nuclear reaction that is youth. They keep things in perspective and prevent youth from burning everything down. Youth worship was always suspect to me even when I was once the youth to be worshipped. Nothing creepier or more self destructive than an old person obsessed with youth. A society similarly obsessed with youth and ignoring old ideas is bound for meltdown. The internet is a haunted medium of perpetual infancy, is cyberculture turning us into forever babies IRL? IDK.
I once spent an hour or two on Find-A-Grave reading up on people who also bear my name and died at the same age as I was then, spoiler: Mostly car accidents. It felt very macabre in the moment, but seeing someone who also enjoys the website makes me feel less weird. I encourage everyone to search their name, filter by their age and observe just a few of the many many ways you could die meaninglessly. Very humbling. Great article.
Such great observations. I've considered the same issue; it definitely seems like the "youth" stage of life is being extended longer and longer as society because safer and wealthier. I'm also suspicious of youth-worship; it sets a culture on a risky path when it turns on the balancing force it requires. It's also harmful to have individuals rejecting the later stages of life that require experiencing just as much as any other stage.

I love the part about graveyards. They have always been comforting to me. I never saw it as being around dead bodies but rather being surrounded by stories and wisdom of those who left the earth before me. Great edition! Love reading your stuff!

Yeah, to grow old and die. When our teeth fall out and our sight is dim that's when we know we have arrived at old age. We fail to heal up as well from maladies. We tend to stay sicker as old people. For most of us these days are ahead. There is nothing wrong to prepare for these times that are coming. There is a wisdom involved that can foresee this evil and to embrace it without flipping out. Do I see a dead cat laying at the humiliated old China Man's feet? Ouch!
