Thank you!!! It was fun to do the lil art criticism bit at the end. I think it helps give some direction to think about the poem with in addition to whatever come up naturally as you read

When my Icarus

Flew close enough

He finally knew

That we are all the sun

So there was nothing

Left to do but

Revel all the way down

To somehow convince

Others how much

It is worth the trip

I'm reminded lately how important it is for us growing in our individuality to be the example and not generalize other groups too much or the spirits of the individuals within them, unless we're doing stand up comedy, of course. And simply find any manner to encourage and inspire others by getting to know them individually more intimately.

"That we are all the sun" 🥺 Lovely verses.

And I couldn't agree with your takeaway more! Generalizing people as groups is so often the root of our problems. People don't realize that it only spreads conflict when you ascribe your problems to more people than are actually involved, which is exactly what generalizing often does.

Living in ways that encourage and inspire others is exactly the conclusion I keep returning to. I think we underestimate how much good we can do by simply showing people a better way instead of trying to force them down that path or condemning their path.

Appreciate you sharing this wonderful comment, it was so uplifting!

Thank you kindly. I share in the uplifting.😄I see the dichotomy in what I wrote also, which made me realize generalizations only work or 'feel right' if they're positive, uplift and speak to higher truths that any or some can partake in. Hence, the line you quoted.

Good point! Yeah, it seems like a positive generalization is more likely to speak to our common humanity, which is a unifying perspective. The opposite—negative generalizations—ascribe something negative to people that might not deserve it, which I'd say has a destructive impact compared to simply focusing on the general good among humanity despite their being bad individuals among them.

Nicely articulated. I'd even go further and say the positive feels so right, objectively speaking, because even 'bad individuals'' have a good behind them. They just make it very difficult for them/us to see it.

Glad to be hear, thx for creating the space. And will do!
